Breastpump I used

I wonder before the inventing of breastpump, how baby consume breastmilk if mummy is away?

Btw, i never survey any breastpump until I feel engorge. That also I just simply buy the cheap but not so cheap item, that is Autumnz Hybrid, around RM200++. I have no choice that time because baby don’t want to latch and I need to pump out. Also my supply is quite low that time so i need to power pump to increase my yield.

However, I experience nipple sore after pumping. Sometimes i just tahan coz dont want baby drink formula. After 2 weeks when baby successfully latch on me with no issue, my mum still nagged me to pump. That time i was very scare to pump, until I found out Lacte Omnia from Facebook Super Mom Duper Kids.

The seller quickly point out that the Autumnz pump nipple size is too large for me. So she suggest Lacte Omnia because it has smaller nipple size.

Now I pump happily, but baby still dont want to drink from bottle 🤪

Diapex Pampers Diapers Review

The first thing that come across me when seeing this packaging is that it is too colourful and does not look professional. However, I came across some mum commented it is soft and has the same quality as Applecrumby. Plus I get it quite cheap, around RM0.30++ for a pieces, from Sunshine Square.

Also it is quite light weight as other premium pampers does. If u ever carry Genki you will know how light is Diapex.

Let me try on my baby tomorrow and update here. She is 3 month old now.

FYI, Diapex seem to be a local product that produced in Nibong Tebal, Penang. Correction: the company name is Nibong Tebal It has siamese word on the package. Maybe the company also ship to Thailand.

-------------------------------------

Tried it yesterday. When she poo it leaked out twice. :-/ Maybe it is still small for my baby. I will update here time to time if I find Diapex is good to use when she grow up.

Huggies Pampers Review

Writing a review for Huggies as I tried all their pampers.

Their production ranking should be like this:

(1) Huggies NatureMade  - more premium and most expensive

(2) Huggies Ultra Natural Soft - I like this, good value

(3) Huggies Dry - most cheap

My baby first pampers is Huggies Ultra Natural Soft and I still find it very useful to use at night as it can absorb very well and leave my baby bum dry. This is the brand I repeat order for the most.

I don't like Huggies Dry as it caused rashes to my baby bum, when she wore only about 2-3 hours. I won't buy again.

I thought Huggies NatureMade would be the most premium and most suitable for my baby. Furthermore it does not use chemical and chlorine to produce it. But it actually can't really absorb well, so I wear for my baby during the day only. I won't buy again after his finish as it is quite expensive.

p/s: Look out for maxtec365 to buy cheap Huggies Ultra with free shipping from Shopee! I bought newborn and S size from them. They do not sell M size so I need to move to other seller.

Baby Reject Bottle

I successfully established breastfeeding at the end of my confinement. I thought baby will normally take from bottle easily as I became baby before, and I never see any baby reject bottle. To my surprise, my breastfeed baby reject bottle!

My husband laughed at me that before this I cried during my confinement month because she don't want to drink from my breast, now I stressed up because she don't want to drink from bottle. :-/

I will write in chronology so it is easier to narrate.

Week 5

At Week 5 when baby went to Klinik Kesihatan to check up I still feed her bottle. Pigeon wide neck SS size was used.

Week 6

This weekend we went to Lam Wah Hospital for check up. I brought expressed breast milk (EBM) in bottle but she seem to refuse to take. According to Gina's book Love Breastfeeding, baby should introduced bottle at Week 4 - 6. I didn't notice this as I am too busy taking care of baby on my own.

Week 8

I start to train baby to take bottle after CNY, which is at Week 8. Not success. She rejected and cried so loud like we bullied her. This is a more okay version. This is the after I try to feed her bottle. I never get to capture the moment she cry like hell.  Then I begin to search at ask around.

Week 9 - 10

Baby started to drink from bottle!
Some tips I gather when I ask around is as below:

This is when she drink like champion. I hope she did this again.

Week 11-12

Just when I though I had successfully bottle train my baby, she suddenly not okay to feed on bottle again. I suspect it is frozen breastmilk (FBM) that result this, or maybe the lipase taste in FBM, but when I try with very fresh EBM, she only took one time this whole week when bottle feed by her dad.

Week 11 reject bottle video.

Thought of buying Hegen for baby but it is expensive and I am sure my husband will disapprove my suggestion. Even buying MAM bottles for baby to try, he seem to be unhappy already.

Maybe I try MAM bottles again till the weekend and see how. I might considering buying Hegen if she don't want to take at Week 13. Also I think Hegen is so nice but it is so expensive. T.T

Week 13

I bought Hegen! But scare to try on baby. Btw, I think the following tips is useful: https://www.kelabmama.com/cara-ajar-bayi-minum-susu-botol-sebelum-mama-kembali-bekerja/

Baby Carrier to use in Malaysia

Due to the surge in positive cases, I might have chance to work from home after my maternity leave. My baby constantly needs hug or need to me hug to sleep so I think a baby carrier might free my hand to WFH.

Actually I bought a fake Baba Sling from Shopee when she reject to latch on me. But I never use it as it is so hard to use. I regretted. It cost me RM30++.

When baby is 2.5 months, I try on Baba Sling again and posted to Facebook Group Malaysian Babywearing to troubleshoot. Many commented it is dangerous to carry baby like this:

Due to the comments, I decided to look for some thing easy to wear. Many recommend soft structured carrier (SSC), some suggested ring sling (RS) in Facebook Group Malaysian Babywearing. I asked in TBAN also, a breastfeeding group, but the admin did not allow comment for my post, she asked me to contact Mummy Charmaine, who is an expert in babywearing.

Actually I was quite scare that Mummy Charmaine will charge me huhu. But so far when I consult her she did not charge me yet. Mummy Charmaine has a company Unison CA, so she recommend her ring sling product as I told her my budget is around RM200+. I see many people also give good review in the Malaysian Babywearing Facebook Group for Maru Ring Sling. Eventually, I bought Maru Ring Sling from Shopee because it is RM20 cheaper than her online shop. It is authentic.

Because I bought Maru RS from Shopee, I asked the shop to help me to troubleshoot. So far the shop is also very nice, very friendly to help me to troubleshoot.

But while waiting for my Maru RS to come, Lazada pula has massive sales on baby items on 1 March!

I had eyeing on Chicco Easyfit for a long time as I read that it is easy to fit. It is RM198 you know when the item is on sales. Quickly, I click on buy button without hesitation.

But I recalled many people are using Tula and giving good , so I decided to search in Lazada too. To my surprise, a RM800++ retail price carrier, only sold at RM575! This is Tula Explorer Mesh which you can carry the baby facing front when baby is 6 months old. Quickly buy this as I so like the Sophia design and there are mesh. Mesh and non-mesh only different for RM15. I bought mesh so that baby wont get hot. And I return the Chicco Easyfit. Picture of me with Tula Explorer Mesh

Tula Explorer Non-Mesh version also has yellow mustard colour which I like.

Actually CuddleMe is not a bad choice for SSC. It is produced by our neighbouring country, Indonesia. Also, there are Malaysia made SSC called Tugeda which cost around RM200++. I didn't buy because I dont like the design. It is too cartoon.

Back to Tula Explorer, I think I probably get the cheapest price. I am so happy. Also, when I post photo to the seller, the seller very responsive and friendly to help me to troubleshoot.

Reasons for me to buy baby carrier

Overall, I am so happy with my two new carrier. I am so surprised I can spend about RM800 on carrier only.

(1) But I made excuse that I won't be getting stroller so it is okay for me to spend on carrier.

(2) Also I am breastfeeding my baby so I can save on formula and I can use the money to buy carrier.

(3) Also baby carrier can help me to breastfeeding in public without need to find nursing room, but I haven't try.

(4) Buy 2 so that when one is at laundry, I can use another one.

(5) Baby is getting heavy, when I hug her I can use baby carrier

(6) I use my baby carrier to carry my baby to sleep to keep two of my hand handsfree. Just now I just carry baby in Tula SSC walking around the house when having my lunch. Life become so easy. Baby sleep after I had my lunch.

Do you have question or comment on baby carrier? Leave your comment, we can discussed. :-)

Baby Reject Breastfeed - How I successfully established breastfeed when baby reject it.

Day 1

Before this I thought delivery and breastfeeding are very easy and I will come get use to it naturally.

However, during delivery, I don’t have energy to push thus Dr decide to use vacuum for me.

The worst thing come in for breastfeeding. During the skin to skin session, I thought of breastfeed my baby but no nurse help me with. The nurse do ask me to breastfeed my baby 6 hours I deliver her.

My left nipple hurts during the first breastfeed, then my right nipple hurt after trying to breastfeed 3 hours later. The milk I can produce is only 0.2ml, and the nurse said the normal volume should be 3ml. She cry every time after I feed her. I scare my baby will be hungry, thus I ask the hospital to ‘top-up’ the milk for her. I need to sign a paper as the hospital is labelled as ‘breastfeeding friendly’ hospital.

Day 2

Hospital used sipping cup to feed my baby, so I am still relieve it won’t result nipple confusion due to bottle feeding. But my worry come when I saw they feed 80ml for 1st and 2nd time, then 60ml (2oz). I think they had overfeed my baby, and I am so scare that my breastfeeding journey will be hard.

Called my sister and she said nipple sore is normal for Day 1-3, so I am relieved. I think nurse should tell me this. I thought there were something wrong on me.

I still continue to go to nursery room every 3 hours to feed my baby, but everytime I ended up turning my calm baby to crying baby.

Day 3

The hospital lactation consultant finally come in (they don’t work on weekend) and teach me how to latch baby properly. This is very useful to me. They ask me to take a deep breath to relax so that baby won’t cry and it really works.

Discharge today and sadly need to purchase formula milk for my baby. Feeding my baby with formula and make sure it does not over 60ml per feeding. Occasionally still feed her with breast, sometimes she want, sometimes she don’t want.

Day 4

Baby fed on formula and breastmilk. I was still using hand and manual to pump out the milk. But every pump only yield about 1-2ml. I was so sad.

On Day 4, there was a aunty who came to my house to help baby bath. She was surprised seeing me feeding baby with sipping cup. She helped me to feed baby with bottle and that day I cried.

Day 5-6

I finally feel engorged, good and bad news. Good news is I finally have milk, bad news is it is really painful. Successfully yield 3-5ml each time but still cannot catch that 60ml. Ordered electric pump online.

Baby now seem starting to refuse breastfeed. I am worry and called the hospital lactation consultant for help. They suggest doing skin-to-skin everyday and express out the milk.

When she hungry, she cry very loud and seem very pitiful. Husband, although know the benefit of breastmilk, suggest that don’t let her cry for so long and just bottle fed her. But when my sister said if baby is used to formula and bottle, hassle will be on us, eg, need to sterilise bottle, boil water etc. Then my husband agree that we will continue to switch baby to fully breastmilk.

Day 7-8

Double electric pump reached. I ordered RM200+ one. Quite shock when I saw some electric pump can cost up to RM1k.

With electric pump, each time I can yield about 20ml. I am quite satisfied. I was thinking if i can pump 20ml every hour, I can catch baby demand already.

Sometimes she refuse breastmilk, as the formula is sweet (yes I taste both formula and my breastmilk on my own).

Day 9

On the day, able to feed baby with fully breastmilk. When she refuse to suck from my breast we use cup or stringe to feed her.

At night, she cry very loud and I don’t have pumped breastmilk anymore. I asked my mum to give her formula milk, but my mum kinda force her to suck from my breast. I am grateful that due to my mum persistent, she finally accept to drink from my breast! A full day breastmilk day with a little drama at night.

Day 10 onwards

Finally fully breastfeed my baby. I guess she had forget the delicious sweet formula milk.

p/s: However, baby now reject bottle which caused headache to me. :/

Giving Birth at Lam Wah Ee Hospital, Penang

I tried to search about people experience at Lam Wah Ee Hospital but in website I seldom couldn't find it. Thus I would like to review here now!

1. Pricing:

Pricing is RM2500 for normal ward and can go up to RM4000 for VIP room. I choose 4 people ward around RM2800. But then LWEH know I am claiming insurance so the bill total up to RM4000. Lesson learnt: Don't let hospital know you are claiming insurance. Some more my the insurance I am claiming has co-insurance leh. I am really dissatisfied with this, talking about money.

2. Deliver:

You need to pay at least 2 visit to the doctor if you plan to deliver there. Actually is see the doctor want to accept you or not hahaha.

During deliver, I thought they will teach me how to push and how to breath but they didn't.

They do have epidural but you need to inform the doctor in advance you want to use it.

For me, I want to save money so I didn't opt for epidural. But I got use laughing gas and pain killer injection at last. I thought I won't need to use any aid to deliver in the beginning. Lastly doctor use vacuum cause they say I don't know how to push. I thought the nurse will teach. T.T

Talking about the experience, due to the Covid season, I need to do rapid test in order to deliver. I have my waist pain at 11pm at 11 December 2020, thought can have a good night sleep first before going to push out my baby, manatau at 11.30pm at 11 December 2020 got bleeding, so husband straight away sent me to LWEH.

First, they did the rapid test, after 30 minutes confirm negative baru they admit me. I ask my husband go back to sleep first then only tomorrow teman me to push, cause the opening baru 2cm when I admit.

Actually I even brought a book to read while waiting at the delivery room, but I didnt read at all. Actually more to hungry. Mummies, remember bring a lot of food when you check it. I feel hungry all the night.

My opening reach 7cm at 7am, then 8cm at 10.00am. Husband reach delivery room around 10am after covid test. I think I havent reach 10cm they asked me to push already. I use laughing gas when my opening is 8cm, as it is quite unbearable. I dunno why the opening did not speed up. The nurse keeping asking me do you feel like pooing.

When they decide it's time to deliver, the nurse shake my stomach, making my pain even worse. They ask me to push when there are contraction but I really cannot. Then at one time, they cucuk so that the water came out. And they say my contraction is quite week and short. While I was pushing, I forget when did i request for injection already.

At last, the doctor came in and say want to use vacuum. He cut a bit then proceed with vacuum. I was in relief that I do not need to go for emergency csec which will cost a lot money hehe. But I was also thinking can I use vacuum at the beginning? No need to push so hard.

3. Breastfeeding:

This is the part I am quite unsatisfied with. Claim to be a breastfeeding friendly hospital but actually not. Some of their nurse discourage me, however fortunately their lactation consultant help me a lot.

Actually, I want to breastfeed my baby right after her delivery when she do skin to skin with me. My husband asked help from the nurse but they didnt help at all. My sister deliver at PPUM, the nurse held the baby mouth to the breast in order to sucks.

I was awaken to breastfeed my baby after 6 hours. Actually still within golden hours. They teach me football style. Both my nipples in pain after 2 sessions of breastfeed. Then the nurse say my nipple is short baby hard to latch on. Walau, do you know mum heart is very glassy after deliver. When I saw baby cry, I scare she will be very hungry, so I asked them how. They say can top up with formula, then they asked me to sign a letter that I am willing to let my baby feed on formula (ya la, breastfeeding friendly hospital must do this).

I DID ASK THEM TO LET ME FEED MY BABY FIRST BEFORE THEY FEED MY BABY, BUT THEY DIDN'T. When I want to feed at 6am, the nurse say there will be doctors coming in so at that time no need to breastfeed baby. I get tricked on the second day but not the third day.

AND THEY FEED 3 OZ!!! OMG!! How could a mum produce so many milk at the first day. I thought they will just feed at most 1 oz. If they feed 3 oz at the beginning how can the breastfeeding be success??

But fortunately they used cup to feed baby, so baby wont have nipple confusion.

But, I did saw the nurse bottle fed a baby while I am at the nursing room. Maybe that is upon mum request. So fast all the nurse use cup to feed baby.

However, on the third day (Monday, lactation consultant dont work on Saturday afternoon and Sunday), the lactation consultant come in and teach me how to latch. Take a deep breath help a lot as I am so anxious that baby don't want to latch on me. Thanks to the LWEH lactation consultant. <3 I am so happy that I can learn the latch technique before I check out from the hospital. And lactation consultant said my nipple actually not that short don't worry. This is the assurance I wish to hear from.

I also want to say thanks to my sister who reassure me that nipple pain is normal and just continue to breastfeed. My nipple pain for the whole month during confinement. It become normal when baby is at 1.5 month. So mummies, don't worry about nipple pain! Or if you think baby latching is incorrect you may find the lactation consultant to check for you.

-----------------------------------------------

Overall, this is my experience at LWEH.

Pricing: 8/10 (still cheap compare to other private hospital)

Deliver: 8/10 (ok la, the stitching is okay. My sister wound need to open again at PPUM and she fainted for 10 hours, sounds like a night mare for me)

Breastfeed: 7/10 (Maybe if you deliver during office hour and you have the lactation consultant teach you after deliver, this scoring might become 10/10)

Disposable Diapers / Pampers for baby comparison

Once give birth to baby JR, my online shopping suddenly addicted to disposable diapers. I will give my review based on my experience. I bought my own diapers without sponsoring by anyone.

Btw, previously I do not know baby poo only when wake up. It is so cute to see the expressiong of baby pooing hehe.

1. PetPet NB / S size

- The first diaper I bought for baby before she was borned as Shopee (Mum Club) has mother bag promotion which I only pay for the postage to get PetPet NB20.

- After that, I purchase PetPet NB60 for RM23.90 from Shopee PetPet Official Store.

- Actually the price can be cheaper Shopee PetPet Official Store, currently I success to bought S56 at RM18.9.

- Price range: RM0.34 - RM0.40 per piece

- I use PetPet during my confinement during day time. At some time, my baby actually likes to wear it to sleep. The absorption is quite good. So far no leakage but sometimes when I change diaper I find out her bottom is quite wet.

2. Mamypoko Organic NB / S size

- The second diaper I bought for baby before she was borned.

- I bought this because it has organic cotton as the lining of diapers! So far the cheapest organic S size diapers I saw. I quite obsessed with organic as I think it is good for baby.

- Price range: RM0.56 - RM0.76

- Nevertheless, baby poo leak out during the first night she sleep on our bed. I think it is because I didnt wear it properly. After that, I am quite careful to wear her diaper at night.

- But I still prefer to wear her Huggies Natural Soft to sleep at night as this mamypoko seem cannot tahan so many liquid. Mamypoko is quite nipis compare to Huggeis Natural Soft and PetPet.

3. Huggies Natural Soft NB / S size

- The first diaper baby used at Lam Wah Ee Hospital, the place she get born. I find this diaper has very good absorption, can really tahan 12 hours. I personally like this diaper very much. Plus it absorb the watery poo so baby bottom not wet.

- Price range: RM0.46 - RM0.56 per piece

- I purchase my first and second pack of Huggies Natural Soft NB78 and S70 from online store at RM36.25 and RM33.90. Now I saw someone is selling S70 at RM31.99.

4. Merries NB size

- I don't have pricing for this as this was given by my cousin. It is quite nipis, and I find out that my baby bottom is wet after she pee for a long time. Maybe this is just not suitable for me.

5. Genki S size

- I bought Genki S87 due to online promotion, about RM0.29 per piece.

- Price: RM0.29 - RM0.33 per piece

- Pernah one time terbocor when I hold baby in the upright position ON SOFA!!

- After that, I don't dare to hold baby on sofa when I heard she pooing.

- But actually this diapers can hold the poo very well if baby is at the lying position. It cannot absorb the watery poo like Huggies Natural Soft but it can hold the poo and pee until I change diapers for baby.

6. Applecrumby S24 S size / M42 M size

- I don't really have experience with this S size diapers.

- But their M size M42 is really cheap when there is sales at Shopee. I had bought 20 packs of Applecrumby at approximately RM21/pack to keep. Means this is like RM0.5 per pieces. So I can switch my organic range from Mamypoko to Applecrumby when my baby using M size.

- Personally if you are an organic stuff addict like me, use Mamypoko NB and S and Applecrumby M for economic purpose. =)

6. Huggies Platinum S84 S size

- Not really keen on this but so far dont have bocor issue.

- Price range: around RM0.50 per piece online

6. Drypers Touch S44 S size

- Selling at RM0.50 per pieces, I expect the quality is good. However, it bocor everytime baby lying down. Even worse than Genki. So I am not keen on this

7. Drypers Skinature S56 S size

- Soft diapers, dont have experience in using yet. However it is quite expensive.

- Price range: around RM0.72 per piece online

8. Miezuu S34 S size

- Introduced by my sister. Organic range, but more expensive than Huggies Natural Soft.

- I used once at night and I am quite satisfied with the result.

- Price range: RM0.65 - RM 0.85 per piece

Overall, the diapers I purchase the most is Huggies Natural Soft. I like it so much!

Anyway, these are all my experience as a mum.
