Giving Birth at Lam Wah Ee Hospital, Penang

I tried to search about people experience at Lam Wah Ee Hospital but in website I seldom couldn't find it. Thus I would like to review here now!

1. Pricing:

Pricing is RM2500 for normal ward and can go up to RM4000 for VIP room. I choose 4 people ward around RM2800. But then LWEH know I am claiming insurance so the bill total up to RM4000. Lesson learnt: Don't let hospital know you are claiming insurance. Some more my the insurance I am claiming has co-insurance leh. I am really dissatisfied with this, talking about money.

2. Deliver:

You need to pay at least 2 visit to the doctor if you plan to deliver there. Actually is see the doctor want to accept you or not hahaha.

During deliver, I thought they will teach me how to push and how to breath but they didn't.

They do have epidural but you need to inform the doctor in advance you want to use it.

For me, I want to save money so I didn't opt for epidural. But I got use laughing gas and pain killer injection at last. I thought I won't need to use any aid to deliver in the beginning. Lastly doctor use vacuum cause they say I don't know how to push. I thought the nurse will teach. T.T

Talking about the experience, due to the Covid season, I need to do rapid test in order to deliver. I have my waist pain at 11pm at 11 December 2020, thought can have a good night sleep first before going to push out my baby, manatau at 11.30pm at 11 December 2020 got bleeding, so husband straight away sent me to LWEH.

First, they did the rapid test, after 30 minutes confirm negative baru they admit me. I ask my husband go back to sleep first then only tomorrow teman me to push, cause the opening baru 2cm when I admit.

Actually I even brought a book to read while waiting at the delivery room, but I didnt read at all. Actually more to hungry. Mummies, remember bring a lot of food when you check it. I feel hungry all the night.

My opening reach 7cm at 7am, then 8cm at 10.00am. Husband reach delivery room around 10am after covid test. I think I havent reach 10cm they asked me to push already. I use laughing gas when my opening is 8cm, as it is quite unbearable. I dunno why the opening did not speed up. The nurse keeping asking me do you feel like pooing.

When they decide it's time to deliver, the nurse shake my stomach, making my pain even worse. They ask me to push when there are contraction but I really cannot. Then at one time, they cucuk so that the water came out. And they say my contraction is quite week and short. While I was pushing, I forget when did i request for injection already.

At last, the doctor came in and say want to use vacuum. He cut a bit then proceed with vacuum. I was in relief that I do not need to go for emergency csec which will cost a lot money hehe. But I was also thinking can I use vacuum at the beginning? No need to push so hard.

3. Breastfeeding:

This is the part I am quite unsatisfied with. Claim to be a breastfeeding friendly hospital but actually not. Some of their nurse discourage me, however fortunately their lactation consultant help me a lot.

Actually, I want to breastfeed my baby right after her delivery when she do skin to skin with me. My husband asked help from the nurse but they didnt help at all. My sister deliver at PPUM, the nurse held the baby mouth to the breast in order to sucks.

I was awaken to breastfeed my baby after 6 hours. Actually still within golden hours. They teach me football style. Both my nipples in pain after 2 sessions of breastfeed. Then the nurse say my nipple is short baby hard to latch on. Walau, do you know mum heart is very glassy after deliver. When I saw baby cry, I scare she will be very hungry, so I asked them how. They say can top up with formula, then they asked me to sign a letter that I am willing to let my baby feed on formula (ya la, breastfeeding friendly hospital must do this).

I DID ASK THEM TO LET ME FEED MY BABY FIRST BEFORE THEY FEED MY BABY, BUT THEY DIDN'T. When I want to feed at 6am, the nurse say there will be doctors coming in so at that time no need to breastfeed baby. I get tricked on the second day but not the third day.

AND THEY FEED 3 OZ!!! OMG!! How could a mum produce so many milk at the first day. I thought they will just feed at most 1 oz. If they feed 3 oz at the beginning how can the breastfeeding be success??

But fortunately they used cup to feed baby, so baby wont have nipple confusion.

But, I did saw the nurse bottle fed a baby while I am at the nursing room. Maybe that is upon mum request. So fast all the nurse use cup to feed baby.

However, on the third day (Monday, lactation consultant dont work on Saturday afternoon and Sunday), the lactation consultant come in and teach me how to latch. Take a deep breath help a lot as I am so anxious that baby don't want to latch on me. Thanks to the LWEH lactation consultant. <3 I am so happy that I can learn the latch technique before I check out from the hospital. And lactation consultant said my nipple actually not that short don't worry. This is the assurance I wish to hear from.

I also want to say thanks to my sister who reassure me that nipple pain is normal and just continue to breastfeed. My nipple pain for the whole month during confinement. It become normal when baby is at 1.5 month. So mummies, don't worry about nipple pain! Or if you think baby latching is incorrect you may find the lactation consultant to check for you.

-----------------------------------------------

Overall, this is my experience at LWEH.

Pricing: 8/10 (still cheap compare to other private hospital)

Deliver: 8/10 (ok la, the stitching is okay. My sister wound need to open again at PPUM and she fainted for 10 hours, sounds like a night mare for me)

Breastfeed: 7/10 (Maybe if you deliver during office hour and you have the lactation consultant teach you after deliver, this scoring might become 10/10)

Disposable Diapers / Pampers for baby comparison

Once give birth to baby JR, my online shopping suddenly addicted to disposable diapers. I will give my review based on my experience. I bought my own diapers without sponsoring by anyone.

Btw, previously I do not know baby poo only when wake up. It is so cute to see the expressiong of baby pooing hehe.

1. PetPet NB / S size

- The first diaper I bought for baby before she was borned as Shopee (Mum Club) has mother bag promotion which I only pay for the postage to get PetPet NB20.

- After that, I purchase PetPet NB60 for RM23.90 from Shopee PetPet Official Store.

- Actually the price can be cheaper Shopee PetPet Official Store, currently I success to bought S56 at RM18.9.

- Price range: RM0.34 - RM0.40 per piece

- I use PetPet during my confinement during day time. At some time, my baby actually likes to wear it to sleep. The absorption is quite good. So far no leakage but sometimes when I change diaper I find out her bottom is quite wet.

2. Mamypoko Organic NB / S size

- The second diaper I bought for baby before she was borned.

- I bought this because it has organic cotton as the lining of diapers! So far the cheapest organic S size diapers I saw. I quite obsessed with organic as I think it is good for baby.

- Price range: RM0.56 - RM0.76

- Nevertheless, baby poo leak out during the first night she sleep on our bed. I think it is because I didnt wear it properly. After that, I am quite careful to wear her diaper at night.

- But I still prefer to wear her Huggies Natural Soft to sleep at night as this mamypoko seem cannot tahan so many liquid. Mamypoko is quite nipis compare to Huggeis Natural Soft and PetPet.

3. Huggies Natural Soft NB / S size

- The first diaper baby used at Lam Wah Ee Hospital, the place she get born. I find this diaper has very good absorption, can really tahan 12 hours. I personally like this diaper very much. Plus it absorb the watery poo so baby bottom not wet.

- Price range: RM0.46 - RM0.56 per piece

- I purchase my first and second pack of Huggies Natural Soft NB78 and S70 from online store at RM36.25 and RM33.90. Now I saw someone is selling S70 at RM31.99.

4. Merries NB size

- I don't have pricing for this as this was given by my cousin. It is quite nipis, and I find out that my baby bottom is wet after she pee for a long time. Maybe this is just not suitable for me.

5. Genki S size

- I bought Genki S87 due to online promotion, about RM0.29 per piece.

- Price: RM0.29 - RM0.33 per piece

- Pernah one time terbocor when I hold baby in the upright position ON SOFA!!

- After that, I don't dare to hold baby on sofa when I heard she pooing.

- But actually this diapers can hold the poo very well if baby is at the lying position. It cannot absorb the watery poo like Huggies Natural Soft but it can hold the poo and pee until I change diapers for baby.

6. Applecrumby S24 S size / M42 M size

- I don't really have experience with this S size diapers.

- But their M size M42 is really cheap when there is sales at Shopee. I had bought 20 packs of Applecrumby at approximately RM21/pack to keep. Means this is like RM0.5 per pieces. So I can switch my organic range from Mamypoko to Applecrumby when my baby using M size.

- Personally if you are an organic stuff addict like me, use Mamypoko NB and S and Applecrumby M for economic purpose. =)

6. Huggies Platinum S84 S size

- Not really keen on this but so far dont have bocor issue.

- Price range: around RM0.50 per piece online

6. Drypers Touch S44 S size

- Selling at RM0.50 per pieces, I expect the quality is good. However, it bocor everytime baby lying down. Even worse than Genki. So I am not keen on this

7. Drypers Skinature S56 S size

- Soft diapers, dont have experience in using yet. However it is quite expensive.

- Price range: around RM0.72 per piece online

8. Miezuu S34 S size

- Introduced by my sister. Organic range, but more expensive than Huggies Natural Soft.

- I used once at night and I am quite satisfied with the result.

- Price range: RM0.65 - RM 0.85 per piece

Overall, the diapers I purchase the most is Huggies Natural Soft. I like it so much!

Anyway, these are all my experience as a mum.
